How to follow a calling and not idolize your job
Steve Garber is a very special man. The story of our friendship starts with me picking up a copy of his book The Seamless Life from a shelf at the Laity Lodge - a retreat center Deb and I were spending a few days in.
Living a seamless life has always been an aspiration of mine, and Steve’s book was wonderfully helpful with getting more clarity around integrating life, love, work, ambition, parenting and friendships.
I reached out to him, simply to express my gratitude, and we’ve been friends ever since.
In Visions of Vocation - Steve masterfully explores the power of knowing and living the difference between Calling ( or Vocation) and Occupation ( your job). This subtle and profound distinction can mean the difference between true flourishing, an all around success in life and the inevitable crisis of meaning that so many of us experience after reaching the ever shifting illusory “success” we crave and sacrifice so much for.
Steve Garber is my first interview guest at the Headspace podcast simply because the man has been thinking about this and working on this with some of the smartest people on earth for a long time.
Please enjoy our conversation. If you love it, please remember to subscribe to the YT channel, the audio version of Headspace is on most platform as well if you prefer that.
