Following the example of Tim Ferriss - a fellow Austenite - and his "5 Bullet Friday" newsletter, I’ve decided to change things up with the Headspace newsletter.
Let me know if you like this new format.
Instead of writing commentary or backstory about the latest episode that just dropped on YouTube, I’ll include the video with a brief note and move on to things I’ve dug up, enjoyed, and want to share with you: books, music, podcasts, etc. How does that sound?
Here are my 5 Rules for Work-Life Balance.
Yeah, I dropped a top 5 video because - let’s face it - we like list videos. I had three other topics I could unpack this week, but then we did a guest spot on Chris A. Matthews' Marriage Underdogs podcast. The episode hasn't dropped yet, but you can find the podcast on all major platforms.
We talked about how driven and ambitious people (like myself) can damage their families and careers in the long run and how we guard our marriage by sticking to certain rhythms in life. So, I decided to shift gears and record this video. Let me know what you think of it.
Books: If you want a mind-bending book to help you be more gracious to yourself and others, check out Daniel Gilbert’s “Stumbling on Happiness.” It’s beautifully written - witty, insightful, and it will thoroughly educate you on how our brains are both a miracle and play some serious tricks on us.
Shows: "George and Tammy," streaming on Showtime (available via Amazon Prime). With Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon - two remarkable actors - it’s the tragic and rich story of the music and romance between country legends George Jones and Tammy Wynette. It's excellent except for the videography (please fire the DP for the next season if there will be one).
Business: Alex Hormozi is a character (look him up) and is obsessed with real-talk business sense. I inhaled his " $100M Offers" book earlier this summer and am now 1/3 into the follow-up book, "$100M Leads." As you can see from the title, Alex doesn’t do fluff. For me, as a business guy, this is pure gold.
Children’s Books: A plug for my middle child’s beautiful creation - "Shelly the Shell-less Hermit Crab." Find it on Amazon.
Thanks for reading this! I treasure your time and attention. Drop me a note on what you like or dislike and what you’d like me to unpack next, both here and on Youtube.
