When it comes to building a better future, there are only two groups of people.
Victims and Victors. We all have been in both groups plenty of times but most of us live in one of these states: perpetual Victims. This is not a judgement on being a real Victim — it’s a choice of whether you stay in that place or decide to move out of it.
The good news is that you can leave one group and join the other, but you have to start looking for something different in life.
Victims look for Rescue
Victors look for Systems
If you think deeply enough about your level of frustration with where you are — you’ll instantly know where you are right now by what you’re looking for.
You’re in the Victims camp when:
∙ You’ve already cast the person who’s going to swoop in and fix it all — you’re just waiting on their entrance.
∙ Your five-year plan is mostly other people finally noticing how great you are.
∙ You keep a mental folder labeled “someday,” and a group chat full of fellow victims who all agree the problem is everyone else.
I visit the Victims camp weekly if not daily, I just don’t like the path forward and promptly return to the one I live in.
You don’t graduate to Victor. You just keep choosing the harder question — starting with the next one you ask yourself.
You’re in the Victor’s camp when:
∙ You catch yourself asking “what would make this repeatable?” instead of “why does this keep happening to me?”
∙ You’ve built the thing that runs whether or not you feel like showing up that day.
∙ Your wins are boring — same inputs, same outputs — and boring is exactly the point.
