Deep Dive: 3 Moves, 3 Mistakes

We all live by someone else’s script—handed down by parents, culture, or ideology. The tragedy is, most people never stop to question it.

Missed that post? Catch up here.

Today I want to share the moves that pull you off the treadmill—endless motion, no progress—and into a life of meaning, connection, and impact. Mistakes, if kept hidden, are wasted opportunities to help others. So I’ll share mine—consider them a cautionary tale.

The extended celebration of my wife Deb’s birthday gave us a day completely off grid, in untouched jungle spilling into beach. Two small boats passed at a distance all day. Otherwise—it was just us. We came home overflowing with gratitude, love, and a kind of transcendent luminescence.

But don’t mistake this for a life free of clouds. I’ve worked with extraordinarily successful people—the ones you’d assume “have it all together.” Truth is, no one does. Everyone carries suffering. It only changes shape and intensity over time. We all hurt, freak out, complain, and mess up. Every. Single. One of us.

The hardest part of coaching new clients is convincing them it’s okay to be needy, weak, anxious—and to say so openly. The moment they relax into being themselves, progress begins.

Which brings me to the moves—and the mistakes—that helped me step off the treadmill and onto a path uniquely mine.

👉 If you’ve been circling the decision of becoming a paid subscriber, this is the moment to lean in. Behind the paywall I’ll share three moves to build a happy life, and three mistakes that cost me years—so you don’t repeat them.
