Unlocking the Hidden Link Between Love, Marriage, and Career Success with Sexologist Dr. Joe Beam
Next free group coaching webinar for subscribers: The Art of Finding and Living Your Purpose - Saturday, November 23rd, 12 PM CST.
Dr. Joe Beam is a friend, a renowned sexologist, marriage expert, and the founder of MarriageHelper.com. I regularly bring him onto my podcast because I believe there’s a direct link between my love life, marriage, and professional success. After watching this conversation with Joe, you’ll see the connection, too.
I ignored the intrinsic connection between my personal and professional life, and it had to kick me in the teeth before I truly understood. This is how it happened.
I was in my mid-twenties and returned from a multi-city music tour—where I’d entertained tens of thousands of people—to an empty apartment. My then-girlfriend and mother of my baby daughter had moved out while I was away. Sitting on the floor of that empty place, I realized I was utterly incompetent in romance.
The truth was, disharmony at home had been affecting my creativity and work for months, and going on tour was my way to escape from the reality I didn’t want to deal with.
All too often, we use work to escape a mediocre love life. But what we ignore today will always catch up with us tomorrow. The dysfunction at home spills over into the very thing we work so hard to build.
My wife Deb and I recently celebrated 25 years of marriage. For a quarter of a century now, my marriage to her has fueled my professional work, been my safe place in times of trouble, and inspired my creativity.
If even a part of this resonates with you, I know you’ll gain a lot of wisdom from my conversation with Dr. Joe Beam. Enjoy, and drop a comment here or on the YouTube channel to let me know what you think of our discussion.

What I enjoyed this week:
Movie: I finally watched Society Of The Snow on Netflix. It's based on the true story of a Rugby team that crashed in the Andes mountains on their way to Chile. It’s masterfully created and deserves the two Oscar nominations it received. I’m working on getting a couple of the survivors on the pod.
Book: I’m devouring the book Mastery by Robert Green. I speak of mastery in my coaching all the time. Too many of us don’t put in the work to truly develop their natural talents. Robert untangles the the myths and lays out the anatomy of mastery beautifully.
