I see your point, but do you also see where a country run by unregulated, self-serving, corrupt corporations leads us? Poverty wages, overwork, pollution, climate crisis, & toxins for most, control and power through money for a small percent. I just want to point out that in a democracy, government is not a black and white thing. With power checks and the right to vote, we all get to choose what kind of world we want to live in.

This is an excellent article. I'll be sharing. I know exactly what you are talking about seeing the difference between East and West Germany. I crossed that former border a year or so after the wall came down. It was as if something had sucked all the color from everything there in the East. That was all I needed to see to understand the failures of communism. Thanks for sharing your personal perspective.

I tried to paste an image that last Sunday (1/23) my daughter-in-law took a picture of graffiti on a side of a building saying ... "Long live Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, Down with Revisionism!" Logo of sickle and hammer next to this saying. This building is located on E Ben White Blvd in the vicinity of the Mexican Consulate here in Austin, TX.

A brilliant essay, Christian. I agree that we can remove people from churches but we cannot remove what is divine from their hearts. Unfortunately, the masses are not able to see into the past or the future well. It is the nature of the masses to rid themselves of the creative and gifted for reasons of jealousy. I pray for a new human species preferring altruism to egoism, generosity to selfishness. The question is it possible without ridding humanity of sociopaths and the genes leading to this disorder. Chronological snobbery and short-sightedness are definitely difficult things to overcome, Baron. You're right.

Christian, many years ago I came to the conclusion that the ability to plan ahead for more than a season was not necessary for survival for our ancestors--including the farmers entering the social evolutionary picture around 10,000 BCE. Subsequently, only a few individuals, like yourself, are cognitively able for future sight. This is why I am not very optimistic. Or perhaps, God is only interested in those seriously pursing spiritual enlightenment? Best
