Today’s Deep Dive
Your Career Is What You Do. Your Calling Is Who You Are.
I’ve held five different job titles in my life.
Entertainer. Evangelist. Philanthropist. Entrepreneur. Coach.
Each transition looked clean on the outside — like growth.
But internally?
I wrestled quite a bit.
Because behind every title shift was a deeper tension:
What if this job is no longer aligned with my calling?
There’s a primal pull in all of us:
To belong to our tribe.
To be known, respected, valued.
So when your title changes, the question becomes terrifying:
If I’m no longer that — what am I?
Will I still belong?
Will they still respect me — or even recognize me?
We don’t talk about this much.
But every major leap in life will bring this question front and center.
Your calling doesn’t shout.
It whispers.
It feels vague, mysterious — not like a plan, but a pulse.
It tugs at you during moments of quiet.
It nudges when you’re succeeding… but still unsettled.
It feels almost dangerous to pursue, because it might disrupt the tribe that’s accepted you for the role you’ve been playing.
But here’s what I’ve discovered:
Your community doesn’t need your title.
They need you.
Not the version of you they’re used to.
The fuller version.
The one that hears the deeper voice and unlocks new capacity, creativity, and service — for them.
So if you're in a season of transition, or if your soul’s been whispering that your current role might not be the whole picture, here are three truths to anchor you:
1. Your calling will feel risky — but it isn’t reckless.
It’s not about blowing up your life.
It’s about aligning your soul with your service.
2. The people who love you for who you are — not just what you do — will celebrate the shift.
If they don’t, that tells you something.
But the right tribe won’t resist your growth.
They’ll need it.
3. Your calling doesn’t erase your past roles — it fulfills them.
Every stage, every title, every job has prepared you.
You’re not starting over — you’re expanding.
From job → to mission → to legacy.
So ask yourself:
Is there a part of me I’ve been quieting because it doesn’t fit the title I’ve been wearing?
And who might benefit if I stopped quieting it?
